What's in Your Purse?

I read an article recently that said most purses contain three items: keys, a wallet and a phone. So why the hell is mine so heavy?

A few days ago I realized my right shoulder was killing me. Aching like I'd done kind of strenuous workout. Since I've avoided anything strenuous beyond typing, I know it wasn't a workout style injury. It didn't occur to me that it was purse-related until my friend lifted my purse and then cried, "Are you carrying bricks in this thing?!"

Shockingly, no. There are no bricks. And when I dumped out the contents of my purse I realized that there was no single, solitary item that accounted for the weight. Sure there was a lot of loose change. And paper receipts. And a small hardcover book. And a paperback. And lipstick. But, hey, any one of those items alone doesn't amount to a whole lot.

So for two days I've not carried a purse. Cell phone, cash and keys have been in my pocket. And guess what? No aching shoulder. But I feel like I'm missing something. After all, I've been carrying a purse for a lot of years...

I don't know how long I can go without a purse. I can feel myself wavering. How about you? What's in your purse that's weighing you down?

if you're not carrying a purse, where are you putting your wallet, keys and cell phone?

I actually carry two extra items, my camera and sunglasses.

In my purse at all times: keys, wallet, cell phone, small digital camera, a plastic sandwich bag containing extra phone and camera batteries, memory stick, hand lotion, chapstick, lip gloss, Tylenol, breath spray, bus tickets, small notepad & pen, some kind of little snack. What can I say? I was a Campfire girl - always prepared for just about anything. ;-) Probably part of why I have shoulder pains, too.

I'd like to know who they interviewed to get their information about what's in purses. I have my wallet, keys, digital camera, makeup case (with nail file, sinus meds, lip balm, etc), a notebook to write down writing ideas that come to me when I'm not at my computer, prescription sunglasses, and I'm sure there's more I can't remember.

Dru, my sunglasses are usually on my head these days. And I'm often asking the kids where they are so they've gotten to the point they just shake their heads and mumble something about mom going crazy.

Hi there City Chick :) I forgot about the 2 bottles of hand cream. They definitely add weight.

Tori, I should carry a notebook too. Lots of times I'm scratching down notes on little scraps of paper using an eye pencil LOL!

Okay, so what's up with all of you carrying your cameras?! You must lead much more exciting lives than me.

I totally hear about the shoulder problems. I have to clean my purse every so often, or the darn thing screw me all up. Change and receipts add up after a while.

Other than those, I have pens, a little makeup I never use, extra keys, gum, hand lotion, hand sanitizer, bandaids, chapstick, mints, my checkbooks and all my necessary personal stuff (kept in a pocket - I gave up on wallets).

Every once in a while I throw my digital camera in there, too, but only if I think I might be somewhere and see something neat.

I carry my camera because you never know when it might come in handy. For instance, after the ice storm back in January, I snapped tons of pics of the damage as we drove to various appointments. And if we ever get in a wreck, I can snap pics of damage, etc.

I carry my camera because I never know what I'm going to see on the streets.

I do have lots of 'stuff' in my bag - purse, keys, phone (with camera!), sunglasses, pens, paper and coupons! I avoid the shoulder problem though by being totally boyish and carrying it all around in a rucksack! Spreads the load!

I only carry a purse on rare occassions, during the school year when I am working I put my wallet in my glove compartment (I do not own a cell phone) and arrive purse-less but I do carry a bag with; pencils, sharpener, pencil crayons, highlighters of various colors, red pens, calculator, candy, gum, tylenol, agenda, sticky notes, binder with looseleaf paper. This bag weighs a ton probably why I am seeing a physio-therapist and getting accupuncture for my soar shoulder so I am ready to go in two weeks for the new school year.

Hello, all! I, definitely identify with this purse issue. I'd end up with shoulder pain from carrying a heavy purse and extra tote to and from work, so I tried using a smaller purse but I'd end up just adding an extra tote!

Let's see, my purse contents include: keys, phone, allergy meds, two checkbooks, wallet, hardcover and/or softcover book, receipts, makeup, bus card, tissues, camera, notepad and pen, loose change, more receipts, etc.
