Latte Art
Those of you who know me know that I'm a little nuts about coffee. I'm crazy for lattes in particular. Last week I had the pleasure of sipping my favorite beverage at Caffe Artigiano downtown Vancouver. At Artigiano's the baristas are artists. A coffee isn't simply poured it is exactingly and exquistly created. And no matter how badly I want to drink my latte, it always takes me a few minutes to get up the nerve. If I sip it gently, the creation may keep most of its shape until near the end. Eventually though, it all ends up in my stomach. Yum.
Writing is like that. Someone takes the time, months or even years, to put together a novel and readers devour it. I like to think some readers take the time to savor my words but, hey, if they wolf it down that's okay too.

Wow! Those are amazing! I wouldn't be able to drink them. I'd stare until the coffee was cold, knowing that I hate cold coffee! Seriously, I'd probably ask them to make one pretty one for me to look at and one plain one to drink.
Your analogy to writing is dead on. I often find myself as a reader trying to slow down, to enjoy the words. Problem is, I want to know how the story ends. It's a battle that I wage with myself every time I open a book. :)
I'm the same way, Anissa! It's like eating my favorite desert. Even though I know I should take my time and enjoy the calories, it's still gone before I know it LOL.
Have you been to Vivace in Seattle? They do lattes like that too, they're gorgeous!
No! Thanks for the tip, Dona. I'll definitely have to head to Vivace's on my next trip to Seattle in a couple months.
Oh, I'm so jealous of your coffee! I have to go to Vancouver!
Come to Vancouver, Rachel, and I'll buy you a coffee :)
Oh and guess what I'm holding in my hot little hands he he he. My local store finally got Stray and I ran down there to pick it up *Yay*! It's going to be a reward after I finish writing my next chapter :)
