Stuck in the Middle with Muse

I've got those
stuck in the
middle with
muse
blues.

And they've struck earlier this time.

Usually right around page 200 I get the blah blah blah's. When I feel like every time my protagonist speaks her dialogue is blah blah blah. Or every scene I write feels like I've written myself into a corner.

When this happens, I usually give myself a break or go and collage my next story but I'm only at page 125. Page 125 doesn't deserve a collaging break. But page 125 is making me feel a lot like that rock climber in the picture. I've got a long way to go and a long way to fall.

So do the blah blah blues ever strike you? How do you handle it?

God I wish I had an answer. Sometimes I stop writing and think until it works itself out. Sometimes I just write crap and figure I will fix it later. Sometimes I drink. :)

Just joking....but I have been known to throw back a chocolate chip cookie or two.

If you were here I'd suggest we drink together and down a couple of big cookies LOL.

But since you're nowhere nearby *blech* I'll have to drink, eat and fix this darn ms alone.

I feel like this when I'm too close to the story. And I combat it the same way you do--I take a break, even if just for the evening. ;-)

You're right, Rachel. I absolutely need a break from this story. Part of me is just afraid of losing momentum if I stop for a day or two.

I get stuck too, but somehow I just get going again. Maybe you should take a break for a week . . . this business of "Write 2,000 words a day" does not always work for me.

We're lucky that book writing is not generally a deadline type business

John, I think if I had an earlier deadline with this book I might be more motivated. Still, I did take a break and then brainstormed with a friend and both those things helped. Can't wait until your book comes out!
