Pulling My Hair Out
Sorry I
haven’t been around.
Actually, I
HAVE been around.
I’ve been on Facebook.
On Twitter.
And in my minivan a lot because that is where moms get sucked into a vortex of doom and
where their souls go to die.
I am also
at my laptop a lot trying to wrestle the words for my new book out of my head
and onto the keyboard. That explains the hair pulling.
Some books
flow naturally from my mind and onto the page completely unencumbered. However,
this book is totally cumbered. It’s cumbering the heck out of me.
So there
you have it … the reason I haven’t blogged and where to find me.
Where are
you these days?

The real side effects of caffeine withdrawal
The world is not a
safe place for the consistently clumsy or the awfully awkward. I’ve found that
this is particularly true now that I’m caffeine deprived. I gave up coffee for a
couple weeks and I’m not ashamed to say that, in the beginning, I was as jittery as a heroin
addict jonesing for her next fix.
In addition to being sluggish in the morning, the lack of caffeine turned me into a bungling
butterfingers. I was dropping things, bumping into corners and tripping over
real and imagined objects. In one particularly bizarre incident, the belt of my
housecoat snagged in the door of a cupboard (I re-enacted the horror in the
photo above). The snagging of my belt caused me to fall to the floor, spilling
my mug of herbal tea (it tasted like old gym socks anyway) and I smashed my
already sore shoulder on the tile floor. It was like I was auditioning for my
own part on Loony Tunes .
The good news? I am now able to consume a
cup of coffee every few days and my overly clumsy stage seems to have ended
(although I’ll never be graceful) . Other good news? I’m totally enjoying the
current book I’m writing. It hasn't found a publishing home yet, however, so if you're looking for something to read click here for some suggestions.
How about you? Are you the poised and graceful type?

Ode to my ice pack
Although it was mucho fun writing most of Dead Suite and all of Drop Dead Beauty using mostly my right hand, on Tuesday I had surgery on my left shoulder and am now typing with two hands!
I never thought much about my shoulder until it became extremely owchie last July. Many x-rays, MRI's, doctor visits and sleepless nights later, the problem is fixed. At least it will be, after months of physio. However, I'm back to 80 words-a-minute and, with the help of my beloved ice-pack, I'm writing with BOTH hands.
To celebrate, here is an Ode to My Ice-Pack. You're welcome:
Tis the gentle coolness of thy touch
That makes me sigh with relief
That thou relieves my shoulder of its pain
With numbness I desire much
Although evil physio causes hurtiness
Your lovely freezing doth help my gain.
There's reason I'm a novelist and not a poet!
Now I return you to your regular day while I go about writing my next book. Hope you're feeling poetic today too!

FOUR is much better than THREE
Although there’s
nothing wrong with the number three, you have to agree that four is sooo much
better. Need proof?
There are Four Noble
Truths in Buddhism. Unless you’re a liar, I bet you like the idea of truths and
4 truths is better than 3 lies any day.
If you’re Jewish,
there are Four Cups of Wine to drink on Passover. If you like wine, this is a
win.
There are four different
blood types (A, B, O, AB). I’m not sure why we need 4 blood types, but blood is
important so this has to be a good thing, right?
Four is a stable
number. If you don’t agree, try eating at a table with only 3 legs
while sitting on a 3-legged chair.
Four was Lou Gehrig’s
number with the New York Yankees.
Four is the only
number that has the same amount of letters as its actual value which is pretty
cool.
I have four kids.
And …
*drumroll please*
Soon the fourth book
in the Ghost Dusters series will be out!
Dead Suite will be
released as an ebook on February 19th.

copy yet? If not CLICK HERE

Scratching an itch
When my dog, Bella, has an itch that needs scratching she let's me know and it usually involves her nudging my hand into the exact position requiring itch relief. My own itches usually involve projects that I know I shouldn't start.
Like my current kitchen renovation.
The problem is I get a project in my head and I have a vision of the end result that keeps poking at me until I relent. The itch only involves a visual of the end and not the pain it'll take to get to that point.
This is great when it comes to writing stories. If a book idea is jabbing at me, I'll let it simmer in my brain for a while. If the idea won't stop pestering me, I'll start research and then writing.
Another itch I often get involves travel. Truthfully, I can hardly finish one vacation before planning the next. It's an expensive sickness.
What itch do you like to scratch?

I just wanna give you a SMOOCH!!
It's been an exciting week for GROUNDS TO KILL!
Here are a few fabulous reviewers who made my week extra specials:
Romantic Times
Dru Ann at Cozy Chicks
Kindle-aholic
Mish's Book Shelf
Mary at BookTrib
When an author puts pen to paper (fingers to keyboard) it is a miracle if your agent likes it enough to support it and a second miracle if an editor likes it enough to throw their company name behind your work.
It's a leap of faith and a third miracle if readers also enjoy your story. I'm well aware readers have dozens of new choices in reading material every single day. You've taken a risk when buying my book. You hoped to be entertained and engaged and I hope I didn't disappoint. Of course, you can't be everyone's cup of tea (or coffee) but I'm grateful to each and every one of you who enjoyed my humble attempt to entertain.
Today I want to thank each of you who took a that leap and bought any of my books. If you liked my stories and actually took the time to say so either by email, or review, I'd love to grab you and give you a sloppy smooch right on the lips!
I consider it a blessing each and every day that I can put my thoughts on paper and then have someone I've never met take a chance and read my work. YOU are the biggest miracle of all.
THANK YOU!!

Do you have GROUNDS TO KILL?
Asking people if they have GROUNDS TO KILL has brought me some interesting looks and even more interesting replies. I get anything from "Grounds to kill who?" to "Hell yeah I do!"
Even more interesting are the Google Alerts I receive in my inbox each day. A Google Alert allows Google to email me links to sites that mention Grounds to Kill so that I know who's talking about it, who's reviewing it, and, apparently, who has grounds to murder their spouse. You may be surprised to learn that there are many more people out there trying to justify homicide than reading my book.
However, YOU are not one of those people, right?
YOU are one of my kind, considerate, enthusiastic readers, right?
And, if you're not, you soon will be, right?
I'm almost positive you've come to my blog to read about my latest book and not because you're looking to justify the killing of someone. I hope so.
Please buy my book instead of murdering someone.
If you HAVE considered killing, maiming, or even maligning someone who's done you wrong feel free to confess all in the comments. I won't judge you. I've been there.
